What is Chinese Valentine’s Day?

Chinese Valentine’s Day Qixi Festival (Chinese:七夕), also know as the Qiqiao Festival (Chinese: 乞巧) is celebrated on the 7th, July of the Chinese lunar calendar, is a Chinese festival celebrating the annual meeting of Zhinü (Chinese:织女)and Niulang (Chinese: 牛郎) in Chinese mythology.

The Story of the Qixi Festival.
According to legend, Zhinhu, a weaver girl and daughter of a powerful goddess, and Niulang, a humble cowherd. For the two, fall in love with each other. Eventually, they got married and Zhinhu gave birth to two children, a boy and a girl. However, when Zhinhu's mother discovered that her daughter married a mere mortal, she brought her back to heaven and casted a massive river between earth and heaven to separate the couple – which is now referred to as the Milky Way. Touched by the love between Zhinhu and Niulang, the magpies on land flew up to heaven and helped the couple by forming a bridge named“Magpie Bridge” across the river, allowing the two to reunite. Their love moved Zhinhu's mother, who eventually permitted the couple to meet once a year on that very same day, which is the seventh day of the seventh lunar month.

Qixi Festival is the Chinese Valentine’s Day which is the romantic holiday, couples spend time together, enjoy a nice dinner, exchange gifts, go to the cinema, etc. Qixi Festival brings an air of romanticism to the streets of China, with couples gazing into the night sky in search of the stars Vega and Altair.
